The widespread use of PayLater in the Gen Z era

paylater is a delayed payment system, in other words we can buy goods without having to pay directly, but instead we pay monthly with interest. In the current era, there are many marketplaces that provide the paylater method, which makes it easier to get an item even though don't have any money yet

However, there are many Gen Z who have debts of up to tens of millions beyond their means, like Raihan, for example, he is a 4th semester student at a private university in Jakarta. Raihan was born from an underprivileged family, but Raihan had the opportunity to go to college. because he received a scholarship from the government, like teenagers in general who don't want to be left behind by new fashion trends, Raihan is the same, he buys trendy goods and clothes using paylater, and later he will pay using his scholarship money, but because Raihan's income is only from the scholarship money which was only disbursed within 3 months, and Raihan did not control his desire to buy things using paylater, leaving him in paylater debt of up to 12 million

For this reason, we must learn from Raihan's case, so that we can control our desire to spend something, we must be able to manage which finances we need and which we don't.

    1. Many Generation Z individuals are trapped in "Buy Now, Pay Later" (BNPL) debt due to the accessibility and appeal of these payment plans. BNPL allows purchases without immediate payment, making it attractive for those with limited credit options. However, many users, particularly Gen Z, underestimate the financial commitment involved. A significant number have missed payments, leading to debt accumulation, with studies showing over half of Gen Z and millennials have missed at least one payment. The lack of regulatory oversight also contributes to this issue, as BNPL providers are not required to assess users' repayment abilities
